Meet the 18 local and international artists who transformed this 100-year-old railroad wall into an epic work of art.

Working at night during an intense two-week period, and assisted by stadium lights, projectors and support crew, the artists used 1,500 gallons of paint to create 16 panels inspired by Newark’s history and culture. Together they created the longest mural in the United States – 1.5 miles – now seen by 1 million cars each month along McCarter Highway (Route 21), plus dedicated city visitors.
